Nurse CV template: an example to customize

A head nurse who recruits looks at three things first: your wards (ER, ICU, geriatrics, surgery…), the clinical procedures you master, and your registration number. The rest comes down to a clear career path.

What a head nurse checks on a nurse's CV

  • The nursing diploma (school, year) and professional registration
  • Wards worked and their intensity: ER, ICU, internal medicine, care homes
  • Procedures and protocols mastered: IV lines, complex dressings, chemotherapy
  • Accepted shifts: nights, 12-hour shifts, weekends — often decisive
  • Additional training (emergency care, pain management, wound care)

3 tips to make your nurse CV stand out

1. Describe each ward with its context

“Visceral surgery ward, 30 beds, night team” says it all: workload, autonomy, pace. A plain “nurse at hospital X” says nothing.

2. List your emergency-care certification with its validity date

It is mandatory for many positions. Showing it up to date on the CV avoids a back-and-forth and signals administrative rigour.

3. State your shift availability

Nights, 12-hour shifts, float pool: if you are flexible, say it in the profile. It is one of the first screening criteria in understaffed facilities.
